Getting jilted at the altar is enough to jar any woman’s confidence. But jilted for another man? That hurts to the bone. To deal with the ramifications, Kristen Carter moves away from the scene of her humiliation, immerses herself in her journalism job and convinces herself she has all she needs with the occasional booty call. All is well, until Ayden McKenzie moves in next door. His bedroom is directly across from hers, and boy does she get an eyeful.

Pushing forty and ready to settle down, Ayden has had it with being a booty call. He wants a steady relationship, children, a friend. And he thinks he might have finally found that in Kristen.   Kristen is hesitant but slowly coming around, and then her past knocks on her door and wants forgiveness. All the old pain and insecurity comes back, and how’s Ayden supposed to deal with that?

Our first glimpse of Ayden is through Kristen’s eyes as she watches him with his girlfriend through his window. Then Kristen goes out for her regular booty call. Not how most romances start. But it set the tone for their mutual dissatisfaction with their current situations. Once they got together, the chemistry was definitely present. I liked that Ayden didn’t back down, but was ready to smack Kristen for being such a ninny. No great shockers in this tale, and a few clichés, but all in all a good steamy way to distract yourself for an hour or so.

Book Blurb & Info for Breathing Shallow

How does a woman get past the shock of her fiancé leaving her at the altar -- for a man? For Kristen Carter, it involves throwing herself into her job as a journalist, and justifying that her life is much better without a man in it. Period. That is, until sexy and seductive construction worker Ayden McKenzie moves in next door. From the first moment she spies him naked through his bedroom window, she is instantly drawn to him like a moth to a flame.

But Ayden’s been around the block -- several times. Now he's craving the stability that a steady relationship can bring, and once he meets his next-door neighbor he feels he's finally met his equal. The problem lies in turning Kristen into a believer … even after an unexpected visitor turns their world upside down.
